The obligatory Friday visit to the shipyard is history again. Together with Grant we took a tour of our new ship. Unbelievable what has happened again in the past week. The work is progressing at lightning speed in order to keep the scheduled date for the launching. So many details have to be considered and in the end everything has to work. A big task in which one should never lose sight of the goal!
Who is the Knysna Yacht Company
The history of Knysna Yacht Company began in 2002 when Kevin Fouche founded the company. A keen sailor and experienced boat builder, Fouche's vision was to design and build high quality, high performance catamarans that would meet the needs of discerning sailors and liveaboard enthusiasts.
The company's name derives from the picturesque town of Knysna, known for its stunning coastal scenery and the Knysna Heads, arguably one of the most difficult port entrances in the world.
Knysna Yacht Company's beginnings were humble, but the company grew quickly and gained recognition in the yachting industry. With a passion for craftsmanship, attention to detail and a quest for perfection, Knysna Yacht Company has grown into a respected brand of quality catamarans. Since 2017, the new creators Grant and Craig Boshard have been responsible for operations. Both together have led the company from the compulsory to the optional. The first models developed by the Knysna Yacht Company were the Knysna 440, Knysna 480, Knysna 500 up to the Knysna 500SE the current model. These cruising catamarans were characterized by their elegant design, spacious interiors and excellent sailing skills. Through the use of advanced composite materials and high-quality equipment, the catamarans offered a high level of comfort and luxury for their owners. A key feature of the Knysna Yacht Company is the ability to customize their yachts. Customers can customize and design their catamarans according to their own ideas. The company works closely with customers to ensure that each vessel meets their specific needs and desires. The Knysna Yacht Company has built a reputation for quality, innovation and customer service. Their catamarans are appreciated by sailing enthusiasts all over the world. Knysna Yacht Company remains committed to evolving their designs and setting new standards in the world of cruising catamarans. Her passion for sailing, craftsmanship and innovation drives her to continue creating exceptional catamarans. The latest model is the Knysna 550, which will be the future of the shipyard. Currently the Knysna 500SE catamarans form the backbone of the company with their timeless, elegant and sporty lines, a feast for the eyes!

We are happy to present you the latest pictures from this morning. A lot has happened again since last week.
Doesn't our "Najuma" look chic?! The underwater is prepared for antifouling painting. We chose Coppercoat, a durable coating.

The ship is already on the transport wagon. Final grinding work on the underwater is in progress. The glazing is in place, the flexiteak laid in the cockpit and on the sugar scoops. The rudder blades are ready for painting. Winches and lever clamps are mounted, there is not much left to complete.
Busy hands are at work inside the hull. The electrical work is in progress. In addition to the construction of the structure and the interior design, another major task that takes a lot of time. The watermaker and all fittings are installed. Most surfaces are still covered and we can only guess what it will look like one day.

We and our guests will soon be able to enjoy the view of the vast ocean through these two windows which are one of the key features of the Knysna design.

a look back at the beginning.....
The construction of the hulls started more than a year ago. It began with preparing the molds. These were protected against dust with foil until work began. After that, the gelcoat was applied and then the construction began with the glass fibre mats and the insulation with the foam sheets. Layer after layer until the hulls could be joined and glued together. We showed you some pictures of this last year. The most exciting moment was the release of the moulds and the first look at the finished hulls.
.....see you soon
The countdown is on. Next Wednesday we'll be back in the shipyard. Then the canvas for the cockpit fairing are adjusted on site and the final patterns are made. Friday is an official holiday, but we don't know if there will be work on the ship anyway. We will definitely take the holiday as an opportunity to go to the beach and, weather permitting, enjoy the sun and wind. We'll be happy to report back to you when the Najuma is in her element.
